At the Kernodle Walk-In Clinic, we address a wide range of Urgent Care, Industrial Care and Family Medicine needs. We proudly provide efficient, courteous, and cost-effective care for patients ages 3 and above (so far, our oldest patient is 105). Our providers are board-certified physicians with experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Occupational Medicine.

Kernodle Walk-In Clinic is open seven days a week. The clinic is equipped with on-site digital x-rays and real-time laboratory testing. Our providers have extensive experience in urgent care medicine, and are available after hours to provide care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that can’t or shouldn’t wait until your primary care provider’s office opens for you to receive treatment. Our urgent care providers are also available for routine care, acute care, and physicals, including sports physicals. If a medical condition is discovered that will require regular care, we can match you with a highly qualified primary physician and/or specialist.

WHAT IS A WALK-IN CLINIC?

Walk-In clinic is not a replacement for emergency care, which is what you need if you have a life-threatening illnesses or injury. Walk-in care is appropriate when you experience an illness or injury that requires care within 24 hours. We routinely treat children (age 3 and older) and adults after accidents or falls, sprains, strains and broken bones, minor trauma and cuts that require stitches, fever, flu, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea, skin rashes and infections. Appointments are not required. Just walk in for prompt care.

WHAT IS PULMONOLOGY?

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that is concerned with treating illnesses and diseases that are afflicting the respiratory tract. Pulmonologists are specialists regarding conditions like asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and emphysema, as well as having expertise in life support and mechanical ventilation. They are also usually involved with internal medicine.

Kernodle Clinic Pulmonology Department focuses on providing expert examination and testing to determine your pulmonary condition. After determining a diagnosis for your pulmonary condition, our pulmonologist will provide the services needed to return your respiratory system to optimal functioning. Dr. Herbon Fleming earned his medical degree from the Meharry Medical College and completed his internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He was fellowship trained in Pulmonology at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Dr. Fleming is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Suspecialty Boards in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.  He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Fred Aleskerov graduated cum laude from the University of George, where he was a Presidential Scholar.  He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and completed his residency at Seton Hall University inNewark, New Jersey.  He was fellowship trained in Pulmonology and Critical Care at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology.

WHAT IS PODIATRY?

Podiatry is the medical specialty that is concerned with treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower extremities which can also include the legs. Training to become a podiatric doctor includes study of anatomy, pharmacology, general medicine & surgery, physiology, and other medical fields. Podiatry can extend into other fields of medicine such as sports medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and biomechanics.

ABOUT OUR PODIATRISTS

Dr. Todd Cline obtained his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences and the College of Podiatric Medicine in Surgery. He then did his residency at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He is also a member of three related organizations, namely: American Podiatric Medical Association, NC Podiatric Medical Society, and American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Justin Fowler received his medical degree from the Ohio Medical College of Podiatric Medicine, and did his residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is a member of distinctive professional organizations North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Board Certified in Reconstructive Rear-foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Andrew Baker obtained his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Chicago, IL.  He completed a reconstructive foot and ankle surgery residency at Community Health Network in Indianapolis, IN and then completed a reconstructive foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Kentucky/Indiana Foot and Ankle Specialists in Louisville, KY.  Dr. Baker is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) board certified in foot and ankle reconstruction surgery.  He is a member of the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society (NCFAS), American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

Physiatry, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), aims to restore and improve a patient’s physical ability and quality of life. The fellowship-trained physician in the Physiatry Department at Kernodle Clinic treats spine-related and musculoskeletal conditions with a combination of medication, therapy, and injections to maximize a patient’s function in hopes to avoid surgical intervention.

Physiatry covers a multitude of conditions and areas of the human body. Physiatry deals with restoring optimal function to muscles, bones, tissue and the nervous system. It can be beneficial for people recovering from a stroke, amputees or patients suffering from fibromyalgia.

TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR PHYSIATRY TREATMENT

Many people might get a diagnosis from a doctor and that doctor might recommend surgery. Before immediately deciding to go the surgery route, it is always good practice to see a physiatrist and get a second opinion. There are many times surgery can be avoided when dealing with conditions that may limit activity and/or cause pain. A physiatrist might be able to show you that physical therapy or other non-surgical techniques are all you need to treat your condition and return to normal pain free activity.

Physiatry treatment is commonly tailored to the individual. Exercises and treatment options are administered depending on the condition, pain, mobility, age, etc. After in office treatment, patients can help themselves recover by following physiatrist instructions for medication, exercise, therapy and rest.

WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY LIKE AT KERNODLE?

The goal of physical therapy and sports rehab is to restore normal function to specific portions of the body. This definition of normal function might be different from person to person. An elite athlete’s normal function of a particular part of the body is going to be drastically different than that of an elderly patient. The idea is to address each case individually and formulate a physical therapy or sports rehabilitation plan that addresses the weaknesses and improves the function of the body.

Once the therapy or rehabilitation plan is established, our physicians and staff at Kernodle guide patients on performing correct technique and developing a good routine. The importance of technique and the correct execution of exercises is integral to the time and effectiveness of therapy. WHAT IS RHEUMATOLOGY?

Rheumatology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine and pediatrics which is concerned with treating conditions affecting joints, connective tissue, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, and vasculitis. In general, rheumatology comes into play in regards to any disorder regarding motion, bones, and muscles etc.

The Rheumatology Department at Kernodle Clinic provides evaluation and management of patients with various types of arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and gout as well as patients with systemic inflammatory diseases such as scleroderma, lupus, polymyalgia rheumatic, and temporal arthritis. Dr. Mayur Patel earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with Honors from the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed an Internal Medicine residency at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.  He served a Rheumatology fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.
